My wife and I always enjoy attending Christmas services in different churches. Each service has a unique flavor, excellent musical performance, splendid stage display, great Christmas message, and sometimes, delicious hot chocolate!
Why this joyful celebration? Here are five astounding reasons for the season:
1. Christmas is about Jesus Christ, the Son of God. It is his birth that we remember and celebrate, not his birthday.
2. Christmas shows us that Jesus chose to come to our world as a baby, not a thirty-year-old adult. In other words, Jesus chose to identify with us at birth – his supernatural birth – as a normal human being. He went through the ordinary process of human development to do the extraordinary work he came to do.
3. Christmas is a marvelous season to share and demonstrate God’s amazing love for everyone. It is an appropriate occasion to flow in the gifts of the Spirit and help people experience the healing, delivering, and redeeming power of Jesus in their lives.
4. Christmas gives us the space to experience God’s love and forgive those who offended us. It is a golden opportunity to reconnect with people who matter to us.
5. Christmas creates in us a longing for the joyful season to continue every day of our lives. It is the Holy Spirit’s invitation to live in fresh intimacy with Jesus.
